Map Travel Favs
How do i put this..? hmm...
I am in ToA and want to go to DoA
i tavel to Kamdan(w8 for the loading) --> i travel to vortex(w8 for the loading) --> i travel to DoA(w8 for the loading)
hmm..troublesome?
especially if you are a slow-loader xD
but what if 'Favourite Destinations' existed?
-> you have up to 3 fav destinations.. each time you click on the boat that helps u travel from one continent to another, the chosen destinations appear as options, except from LA, Kamadan, Kaineng and GToB..
this way if one of my fav destinations is DoA i can travel there without having to w8 for 3 loadings

Epic signed, and I wish you could do this from the character login screen too. Like where it says your location, put a drop down thing there where you can pick where you want to zone in.

I think it's a good idea, even if its probably too late in GW1 life to be implemented, something like this has to be put into GW2 because having to travel through world map hubs every time you want to change continents is highly annoying.

I would prefer just merging all 3 maps together or have them be able to scrolled through, and eliminate the boat once you have been there once.

Yes....let's remove the constant pains that we've so long needed to remove.
Maybe add a boat in the Doa? please?!

^This^
There are already some player-made renders of how a completed map would look like, and it would shorten the traveling speed by ages.

I really like the idea of setting a list of your favorite places that you could travel to any time. This would really be helpful with outposts, which don't show up on the map until you zoom in. Would make ToA, Zin Ku, and Chantry easier to find.

And when clicking on the vortex, instead of mapping to the Domain of Somethingorother (whatever the main town is called), you get a map of that. Or just maps for the domains and the three mainlands.

Merging was already suggested (over and over again) and we got a formal response from Anet. More precisely from Linsey if I'm not mistaken. She said that the merging would be too much resources and time consuming. They will have to pull a lot of programmers from the GW2 team and it will take more time than it's worth. The game wasn't designed to be one big ass map, forcing them to rewrite the current code.A ton of things could be implemented instead of this minor inconvenience.
However, referring to the OP's idea, I'm a a "fast loader" so this doesn't effect me as much. I would like to see other things being worked out. At the moment there're are much more pressing issues than shaving a few seconds. Moreover, DoA is a special case and shouldn't be a representative to the "problem" of switching cities.
As a side note, Anet might be wrong about the code rewrite. Same as they were wrong with the hard coded KDs. (Izzy, Izzy, Izzy)

/signed This would be extremely useful, as I can get quite bad lag and having to travel to Spamadan, even without lag can take an age to load. I envy all of you quick loaders.

Idk about you guys, but ive been waiting for GW2 for 218746 years, so if you could take 10 seconds to take the long way so i can get gw2 5 months earlier that would be awesome.

A bit confused, are you asking to replace the port towns with favorites if there are favorites? Or are you asking for them to be added along with the port towns.
If the first, I'm on the fence.
If the second, I say relocate - would be easier to put them on say, you're Hero (H) panel. What if you are in the Realm of Torment? Well, no boat, so tough luck, two loading screens right there - boo.
Though I'm a fast loader, so I got nothing to worry about.

Actually, what Linsey said, isn't that it is too inconvenient with resources. But that they can't because the continents are on different realms or something. I.e., impossible to merge unless they move everything to a singular realm/server (I think this is where Ratson got the too much resources part from) which, iirc, would increase lag. And lag, no one wants.
The price is not worth the reward.

^to be added along with the port towns..
the point isn't where the favs would be added.. the point is for anet to actually add the map favs option xD

I still think that it would be just easier to access other region's maps without being there.
You want to go from The Temple of the Ages to the Gate of Anguish?
- Click the Boat. -> A similar panel like the current one appears, but with "Battle Isles", "Cantha" and "Elona" instead "The Great Temple of Balthazar", "Kaineng Center" and "Kamadan, Jewel of Istan"
- Select 'Elona' and click Accept. -> Elonian map is shown.
- Click Vortex. -> The Torment Map is shown.
- Click the Gate of Anguish. -> Map travel there.
That would work for all locations, not for a few tagged as favorites, so I think that would be better than this.
Although this would be better than nothing, of course.

Nothing, tra la la?

Something to make it easier/faster would be great.
I like the idea of a merged map. But anything that would speed it up would be a plus.

this would save me a lot of time. it's not just that though, it keeps an 8 person party traveling from Cantha or Tyria together when they are trying to go to the Desolation

Yeah, it'd be nice. As steve said the party size difference is a big setback (but I'm hoping that in GW2 we won't have to deal with an extremely long warmup time ie Prophecies campaign), and as mentioned having to travel through high-traffic areas is part of the speed problem.
I don't find it to be too much of an issue now, but I hope that it's cleaned up in GW2.
